
Overview
A Personal Care Worker (PCW) provides compassionate, client-centered care to individuals who require assistance with daily living activities. Working as part of a home care team, PCWs help clients maintain their independence, dignity, comfort, and overall well-being while following an individualized care plan under the supervision of management.
Candidates should meet the following requirements:
Previous personal care experience is preferred.
Must be at least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Complete all required state and company training, including health, safety, resident rights, first aid, and specialized care training.
Excellent communication skills in English (reading, writing, and speaking).
Dependable, professional, and committed to maintaining client confidentiality.
Physically able to perform caregiving duties.
Reliable transportation and a dependable means of communication.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the care team.
Personal Care Workers may be responsible for:
Assisting with personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, and oral care.
Helping clients with mobility, transfers, ambulation, and toileting.
Planning and preparing meals based on dietary needs and assisting with feeding when necessary.
Providing medication reminders (does not administer medications unless authorized).
Monitoring and reporting changes in a client's condition to supervisors or healthcare providers.
Recording accurate client care documentation and daily progress reports.
Assisting with prescribed exercises and range-of-motion activities under professional direction.
Performing light housekeeping, including laundry, changing linens, dusting, vacuuming, and maintaining a clean, safe living environment.
Providing companionship, emotional support, and assistance with appointments, errands, and grocery shopping.
Measuring and documenting vital signs when required.
Participating in ongoing training and professional development.
Applicants must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 50 pounds as required.
Bend, reach, stoop, climb stairs, and stand for extended periods.
Safely assist clients using walkers, canes, or other mobility aids.
Operate basic household equipment and cleaning tools.
Follow detailed instructions and maintain attention to detail.
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
To ensure client safety and compliance with regulations, Personal Care Workers may not:
Perform skilled nursing or invasive medical procedures.
Administer medications unless specifically authorized by a physician and company policy.
Perform heavy-duty housekeeping (such as moving furniture or deep-cleaning appliances).
Provide services outside the approved care plan or perform tasks beyond their training and certification.
